Subject: [LRP] Sandisk report
The Sandisk SD25B I ordered from CMPexpress (after finding them via
www.shopper.com) came. Used the adapter I've had for a while that I got at
Fry's Electronics: HL2-V0 $6.99. Had to bend a pin on it because it
doesn't lack a pin where the Key is on a lot of IDE cables (I could have
just found a cable without the key, but it was easy to bend it.) - If you
don't already have one of these connecters, you might want to just buy the
3.5" version of the drive, it will cost you less then the extra $7 the
adapter costs - but, I like the size of the 2.5" model.
Took me two boots to realize that I needed to change syslinux.cfg to point
at /hda1 not just /hda (d'oh!) Here are my boot times:
Floppy disc:
25 sec Time for system to get past POST and get to floppy
101 sec Time to get to login prompt
After playing with BIOS, turning off boot virus checking, etc, and putting
in the Sandisk:
SSD:
20 sec Time for system to get to storage
33 sec Time to get to login prompt..
So from power switch to login - 33 seconds. Wowzers.. Plus I like
gadgets, so LRP which quite cool gets bonus neato points running on a tiny
Sandisk. :)

TIA

Hi all.
I buy them from EMJ America at (800) 436-5872. I have used the ChipDisk
from JUMPtec, and it works nicely for internal mounting inside a case
(although I had to tape it in - no bracket! :( ). I have also been using
the Adtron ATA adaptor for PC-Card Flash Cards in systems where I want to
change the image every now and then. It costs a little bit more, but is
convenient when you need to do a bunch of identical LRP boxes or when you
are playing with different configurations.
I use LRP as a basis for a data collection system and I also teach a Network
Configuration class and use it as my primary router platform. Keep up the
good work!
Thanks,
Jim Walters

Didn't you also encounter the strange hda error I and some other people
have when using CF cards or Flash Disks ?
It was discussed here a few days ago, but to refresh your memory :
hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
It only happens when mounting or umounting the disk.
