The South Pole EarthDial is located at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station
at 90° South Latitude. In addition to the world-class astronomy and
athmospheric studies, we are in the middle of a multi-year effort to build
a new station (the third facility at the Pole since the 1950s).

One of the things that makes the South Pole unique is that it's the only
inhabited place on Earth with six months of continuous daylight followed
by six months of continuous night. For the next few days, the shadows
will get longer and longer until the sun

Geosynchronous satellites are not visible from the South Pole. As a result,
we do not have a 24-hour-a-day connection to the outside world. If the
EarthDial picture does not look recent, it may be a few hours until we
are able to update it.
