Ethan's Antarctic Journal - Musings from the Pole (Volume 5)

Fifth trip, third winter, second for The University of Wisconsin - Madison; this time, I'll be running IceCube, the successor to AMANDA. AMANDA is still running, but we've added eight new strings this summer to the first string from last year, giving IceCube almost as many sensors as AMANDA.

This year will be a little different than last year, in part because of IceCube and the Temporary Counting House, and in part because so much of the old station under the dome is already gone. We also have an experienced crew this year; besides myself, there was supposed to be PJ and Victoria, Polies with several winters between them, but PJ NPQed and went back to Madison at the end of Summer.
